Steps of my front cover.

In this blogpost I will be showing step by step on how I simply created my rock music magazine.

In this first image, this is just me simply placing an image I previously took, onto photoshop to use as my main image.

This next image is me resizing the image to suit the size of the magazine and also shows me changing the brightness of the image to give it a better effect.

This next screenshot is just me placing a banner onto the main image which is the magazine name which i previously made using photoshop, alls I did was make a few layers of different text then moved them around to get this;

The next image you will see is me simply adding a bit of text to the magazine cover which says 'Bleach!" which is the bands name, the main image is of the lead singer of the rock band "Bleach!".

I then removed the white background from this text.

After I did this I then added this text to my music magazine cover.

In the next screenshot you are about to see I just simply added text on a separate layer of a quote that the band "Bleach!" use quite often.

In this next image, i went onto the internet to find a text that simply wrote in lines to make it look like a barcode, I then put numbers underneath and added a white boarder / background to it.

The next screenshot is me placing the barcode I made onto the magazine cover.

The next image is me adding a pug into the corner of the magazine to make it eye catchy.

In the next screenshot there is a lot of changes, but I will tell you how and what I done to make these changes in the next paragraph.

There is a lot of changes in this image, the first big change is the banner / masthead, Alls I did was re-arrange the text layers of it to make it look better since in the previous screenshot it looked like the "R" was overpowered by "ICON" so I moved them about to make it the other way around which is eye catchy and effective. Another change is the text above the band name which says "Exclusive To Rock Icon!", I just simply used text box to add this writing, I done it as it is eye catching because the white writing stands out on the main image, also the yellow and red text stand out of the main image which will catch the eye of the targeted audience. I changed the pug in the bottom left corner because I thought it didn't fit in, so i shaded the yellow box and changed the text to make it seem like this band has already hit the big leagues which will attract the targeted audience. Next to this pug you will see a smaller image of the bands lead singer, Micheal Hayes, and there is a text box next to it which will also catch the targeted audiences eye and may interest them in the magazine.

Props & Characters

Prop List;

Small Stairs

The characters;

Michael Hayes

Why am I using this character?

I am using this character because he is tall, dark haired and will be wearing a leather jacket which connotes to me he is the type of person to be in a rock band or to like rock music, I think he would be perfectly suitable for my front cover of my magazine cover because of this.

Why am I using this prop?

The reason why I am only using this prop is for the fact that if he sits down on them for the image then it will sort of connote that he's got a laid back personality but for the fact that everything in the image is dark it shows he's quite a dark person himself which relates to the band he is in, "Bleach" which is a rock / metal band.

Mood Board

This mood board that I have created shows the mood of the genre that I will be focusing on, the genre is Rock, the mood of this mood board has 2 moods to it, aggressive and cheerful. Aggressive for the bands Slipknot, Metalica, AC-DC and Kiss, cheerful for the bands Nickelback, Foo Fighters and Rolling Stones. I will need to focus on these moods for my double page spread, content page and front cover.

Mock up of my double page spread

This is my mock up of my double page spread.

Fonts and colours

In this blogpost I will be telling you about what font and colours I will be using and why, and also what I wont be using and why.

This first image i'm certain I will be the font and colours i will be using as it stands out and is affective in connotation towards the music genre Rock.

This second image image i would use since the font and colours have no representation or relevance to the music genre Rock since the colours are to bright and the font is just plain.

This third image I also wouldn't use as yet again it has to relevance to the music genre Rock, it looks to calm and wouldn't suit the magazine cover I have planned at all.

Front Cover Ideas

In this blog post I will be telling you about what we done in todays lesson.

Firstly, we found out what colours catch peoples eyes and what ones stand out more than any, this has helped me think about what colours and what style of font I want to use on my front cover for my music magazine, these are;

For the front cover the main house style colours will be, black, red and yellow. Black for the background as it will help the other font / text stand out more than any other coloured background, and also, the colour black suits my music magazine as I will be focusing on the music genre 'Rock'.

The masthead for my music magazine will be a style of font that looks like graffiti but is easy to read, it will be red with yellow on it, I think this will stand out on the black background and will also catch the eye of the targeted audience, along side suiting the house style and the genre of music.

These are 2 images of 2 different Rock magazines we used as an example. The 'Kerrang!' magazine uses a lot of bright colours, such as a blue background with a white masthead which is overlapped by the main image of Dave Grohl (Lead singer for the band Foo Fighters), this magazine cover is suitable for the music genre because of the main image in my opinion, this is because the main image is the lead singer of Foo Fighters, they are a rock band that are always quite amusing and happy with cheerful type of music which suits brighter colours.

This second image is an image of the rock magazine 'Classic Rock', this uses a few dull colours such as beige and grey, these suit the style of rock they are using and suits the magazine as a whole, this is because of what the masthead insinuates. It insinuates that "Classic" 'Rock's' main fans / listeners are older, this is because to young people Classic Rock is old rock and nothing of it is really new, so therefor the majority of their listeners will be a little bit older, but to them its not what is seen as Old Rock, its just normal Rock, i know this because on the masthead the masthead reads 'Classic Rock' the 'Classic' is rather small but the 'Rock' is huge. This magazine doesn't have many eye catching features since it is just plain and dull with no main image, so their isn't much to view, but because of this is stands out from other music magazines.
